Description of the Proyect

Today, October 8th; 2013 we started this project which will attempt to recapture the history of the town of Lidice, Czechoslovakia and its tragic massacre in 1942. This project will also look into the history of Czech Jews who survived the Holocaust and migrated to Ecuador. Some Czech immigrants established themselves in Quito, specifically in the Mariscal area. There once was in this area a square called Plaza Lidice in commemoration of the victims of the massacre of this town. Those of us that make up the "Historic Documentation" team are in charge of the investigation and the gathering of important historical facts and finds for this project.

The most important objectives in this project are:

- Learn about the history of the town of Lidice and its historical, geographical and socio-economical context. - Find similar towns or communities in size and proportion in Ecuador.
- Research the reasons behind the massacre of the Lidice. - Find out what was the world's response to this tragic massacre.
- Investigate the current status of the town of Lidice and its survivors.
- Learn about the story of the children of Lidice.
- How did Holocaust survivors, who came to Ecuador, reconstruct their lives?
- Learn about the history of the Lidice square in the Mariscal area.
- Find out the reasons why and when it changed its name to Foch square.
